According to a precise set of rules laid down in the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN) and the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (ICN), the scientific name of every taxon is almost always based on one particular specimen, or in some cases are of great significance to biologists, especially to taxonomists. - Specimen books are the printed brochures or catalogs of type foundries and printers, offered to advertise the range and quality of type available.
